Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Sunday exchanged wedding vows with London-based businessman Raj Kundra in a close-knit family affair here in this Maharashtra hill station.

'Everything went very well. All parents want their children to get married happily and that goes the same for Shilpa's parents as well. They are very happy,' said Kiran Bawa, Shilpa's friend and business partner, after the wedding.

'Raj and Shilpa both were very nervous before the marriage but now they are happy. We are going straight to Raj's house in Mumbai,' she added.

Wearing a red sari designed by Tarun Tahiliani, the 34-year-old exchanged vows with Kundra as per the Bunt tradition, according to the Mangalorean community that the Shettys belong to.

The groom was sporting a maroon sherwani with golden embroidery and a turban with his face veiled by a sehra (string of pearls). He was also holding a sword in his hand, as per Indian tradition.

Kundra left Amrit Villa, located about five minutes away from Bawa Villa, where the wedding was held, in a two-horse chariot.

Photographers scrambled to train their cameras at the goings-on while curious star-gazers were kept at bay by both private and police security.

Sunday's wedding was the climax of the two-day festivities that included a sangeet ceremony Saturday night here.

The buzz around the marriage started early this year and had been steadily getting louder even though Shilpa denied it officially before getting engaged to Kundra late October.

Expected at the marriage were celebrities like the Bachchan family, Shah Rukh Khan and family, the Kapoors, Rekha, Farah Khan, Salman Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar, the Deols and Sushmita Sen.

However, noticed prominently on the occasion were only actors Rohit Roy, Jackky Bhagnani and Tahiliani.

Shilpa also delighted fans by posting a blog entry titled 'This is it' on her D-day.

However, in Sujoy's version, ALADIN shares nothing other than his name with the protagonist of the famous fairy-tale.

Here ALADIN is a shy, young man who is constantly bullied by a certain gang of boys in his college. Since Riteish plays a college student in the film, he was required to carry a bag. The actor suggested using a sling, since that is very popular with the youth today.

However, Director Sujoy insisted on Riteish carrying a typical school bag as it would be a perfect fit with his reclusive character in the film. Riteish immediately disagreed, but later decided to try it out on Sujoy's persuasion.

He was given a worn-out brown leather bag by Art director Sabu Cyril to try it on. After giving a few takes with the bag, he discovered, to his own surprise that the bag indeed added that 'authentic' touch to his character in the film and gladly agreed to carry it.

Says Riteish, ''Sujoy is a brilliant director and knows exactly what he wants. He was very sure about his portrayal of ALADIN and though I was initially hesitant, I realized that the bag completely matched ALADIN's personality.'' And how was the school-going experience? Bollywood star Salman Khan has cancelled his upcoming trip to New York to promote his latest movie "Wanted", besides participating in the auction of his personal paintings to raise funds for his charity.

Organisers and promoters associated with the event cited Shah Rukh Khan's episode at Newark Airport early this month, where he was questioned by immigration officials and taken for a second screening, as a major reason for Salman to cancel his New York trip scheduled in early September.

The event was scheduled for September 3 in New York. The promoters were also in talks with local organisers in cities like Chicago, Houston and Dallas for his other events.

"However, after the Shah Rukh Khan event, Salman informed us that he would not like to take the risk of coming to the US at this point," an informed source involved with the planning and organising the September 3 event told PTI.

Bollywood heartthrob Shahrukh Khan hosted Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam to a special dinner at his residence in Mumbai's posh Banjara Hills last Monday.

"I attended a dinner at his house. He served the best Indian cuisine including briyani and thosai. I must say Malaysian (food) tastes 20 per cent less good than original Indian food. He also agreed to do one or two shoots for his new movie Happy New Year in Malacca later this year," Mohd Ali told Bernama during a brief visit here.

He said they also discussed establishing a film studio in Malacca to develop talents for the Malaysian movie industry.

"He (Khan) has a lot of experience in acting and movie production. He has given us his blessings, I hope he can give lectures and share his knowledge with us," added Mohd Rustam.

Two of Khan's movies, "One Two Ka Four" and "Don", were shot in the historical Malacca state.

Last November, the Malacca state government awarded him the title "Datuk" for promoting Malacca through his movies.

South cinema opens its doors today as the stars gather for the South Filmfare Awards Festival at the Novotel in Hyderabad, the heart of Tollywood.

Genelia D’Souza will be performing at the awards and has been nominated as Best Actress for her role in Santosh Subramaniam, originally in Tamil, later remade as Bommarillu in Telegu and now as It's My Life with Harman Baweja in Hindi.

Shilpa Shetty celebrated her 34th birthday yesterday and making the day special for her was her boyfriend Raj Kundra.

Raj threw a surprise birthday party for Shilpa and present on the occasion was her sister Shamita Shetty who flew all the way from India to be with Shilpa on her special day.

Says a family friend, “Shamita and Raj have been planning the bash for a month. Nobody in Mumbai was allowed to talk to Shilpa as they did not want the secret to be out.

In fact, Shilpa didn’t even know that Shamita had flown in to London on Sunday to celebrate her birthday. When Shilpa saw her sis, she squealed in delight!”

The party was thrown at a swanky hotel in London. It is Shilpa’s favorite place due to the magnificent view of London and the food.

The evening was made romantic with the performance of Escala and the British pop girl band Sugababes.

Kareena Kapoor is looking forward to the release of her much-talk-about film Kambakkht Ishq, where she acts with Hollywood biggies Sylvester Stallone and Brandon Routh.

It also has her favourite Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar in the lead role.Even more than the cast of the film, Kareena’s bikini scene has created lots of interest amongst the film buffs.

The sexy and daring actress justified the scene by saying that she couldn’t help but wear a swimsuit in a swimming scene, as she couldn’t wear jeans under water.

Kareena also played down the rumours of her request to the makers of the film to cut the promos which features her in bikini. She said it is the work of the producers to choose the scenes for promotion.
